I'm Ari Kurtz, the founder and CEO of King & Brigade LLC.
I'm a third-generation entrepreneur who, with a small group of partners, is looking to acquire a small business. I've walked both the small business and corporate paths, and I know, firsthand, how much heart goes into building a successful company.
Below you'll find more about me, my background, and the types of business we're looking to acquire.
I'm originally from Charleston, SC
I live in Atlanta (yes, seen here in the snow) with my family.
At K&B, we're looking to acquire a business with $250,000 to $1,000,000 in EBITDA – a company with both a strong foundation and potential for growth. And the goal isn't just to close a transaction; it's also to preserve the legacy of a business that means everything to its owner.
Growing up as the son of a small business owner and having all kinds of busineses from non-profit educational to sales at a Fortune 50, I value the entrepreneurial spirit and the community that a business can create. Having spent most of the last 15 years in corporate America, I'm excited to return to my roots.
Our goal is to achieve sustainable and profitable growth by prioritizing quality, excellence, and a approach that benefits all stakeholders. That means building a business that benefits not just owners, but also customers, employees, partners, and the community-at-large.
Outstanding service providers:
Our backgrounds include working with children and families, designing training and development programs, consulting with retail and tech clients, digital transformation, and more. We know services and service-focused businesses (like retail), and we feel confident we can add the most value there.
Enduringly profitable businesses:
Our goal is to shepherd a consistently profitable business that's shown steady growth -- even if with a few ups and downs -- into its next stage. Long-tenured employees who are experts in their fields and who want to stay with the business into its next era are ideal.
Industries where we're experienced:
Learning and Development/ Training
Early childhood education
Speech & occupational therapy
Tax preparation & bookeeping
Pet services
Travel & recreation
Home Services
Waste management
Why "King and Brigade"?
In Charleston, where I was born and raised, my mother's family owned a retail shop on King St. and my father's family owned a scrap metal yard on Brigade St. It only seemed appropriate to include both when I named my own company.
Sponsor and CEO
Experience:
Ari has over 25 years of business experience ranging from his work as a small-business CEO to consulting with the C-suites of Fortune 50 companies to serving as a board member and board chair for a regional non-profit.
Ari's career started in small-business; he led a company with $1.5 million in revenue, growing sales, enhancing operations, and learning how all of the moving parts of a business fit together.
In 12 years at Google as a sales, marketing, and digital expert, Ari led teams that helped big brands (like Home Depot, Comcast, Lowe's) formulate strategy, transform for the digital age, and innovate.
Ari also spent six years in management consulting, first at Booz Allen Hamilton (a large, global consulting firm) and later with a boutique strategy & design firm, where he helped small and medium sized businesses with strategy, operations, and innovation.
Ari earned his undergraduate degree with honors from Stanford University and his MBA from the University of Georgia, where he has also served on the curriculum advisory board. He lives in Brookhaven, GA, with his wife, two daughters, and adorable and lovable (but not-so-normal) dog.
